Tasmanian LiFE Awards – 2025 Nominee
Communities in Action for Suicide Prevention LiFE Award
The Communities in Action for Suicide Prevention LiFE Award acknowledges the crucial role that communities play in identifying and taking action towards suicide prevention. This award recognises any group or community, whether it’s a sports club, community group, or a hobby group, that works together to prevent suicide. This may involve developing a local plan for mental wellbeing and suicide prevention or organising activities that bring the community together to facilitate social connection and provide opportunities to discuss mental health and suicide prevention.

Dillon’s Run Around Tasmania

Dillon’s love of running started at an early age. What started to improve his fitness for football quickly became an essential part of his life and a key tool for managing his mental health.
Running provided Dillon with an outlet to cope with mental health challenges. At just 15, he began challenging himself by running marathons, testing both his mental and physical endurance. Dillon’s passion for competitive running showed he was capable of more than he could have imagined.
But it was the Sydney Marathon in 2023 that truly tested Dillon’s mental strength. The race became the turning point for Dillon to start therapy and open up about his struggles. It was this experience that inspired him to use running to support mental health awareness.
In November 2024, with a strong support team behind him, Dillon ran 1,300km around Tasmania to raise funds and awareness for SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY. Along the way, countless people gathered on roadsides and footpaths and connected through social media to give encouragement, donate, and share their own mental health stories. Many ran alongside Dillon for parts of the run in solidarity. The event raised $30,000 for Stay ChatTY.
Dillon’s Run Around Tasmania brought attention to SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY’s message that no problem is too big to talk about. The event highlighted the importance of reaching out for help when needed; a message that clearly resonated with the community.
