Arnob Chakraborti- Innovative Practice and Research Tasmanian LiFE Awards – 2026 NomineeBeth Rad2026-01-09T06:27:05+00:00

Tasmanian LiFE Awards – 2026 Nominee

Innovative Practice and Research LiFE Award

The Innovative Practice and Research LiFE Award recognises outstanding contributions in the field of suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention through innovation and research. It acknowledges research that enhances our understanding of effective strategies, including responses to recent events affecting mental health, as well as individuals or groups who have developed novel and unique approaches to suicide prevention.

Tasmanian Suicide Prevention Community Network - TSPCN Forum 2023

Arnob Chakraborti

Dr Chakraborti holds specialist qualifications in clinical psychiatry, academic psychiatry, and in public health. He has worked within publicly funded health care systems in the UK and Oceania. Dr Chakraborti is currently clinical director and a consultant psychiatrist for the Adult Community Mental Health Services, South Tasmania.

His interest lies in the interface of mental health with public health, in the life-course trajectories of mental health conditions, population-based interventions, and in social determinants of mental health and recovery.

Much of the management of depression occurs within General Practice, with access to multidisciplinary care and treatments limited by cost and availability. Dr Chakraborti has delivered presentations on Treatment Resistant Depression (TRD) to Tasmanian GPs across the state in collaboration with Primary Health Tasmania, University of Melbourne, Royal Hobart Hospital, and Hobart Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). This is an innovative approach to providing GPs with comprehensive learning opportunities to review the concept of TRD, outline key factors in assessment, and discuss locally available treatment options in this expanding field. This represents a multi-disciplinary approach to managing mental health in primary care.

Dr Chakraborti’s work is making a clear and meaningful difference because it sits at the critical intersection of clinical care, academic inquiry, and public health strategy. His specialist training across psychiatry and public health allows him to understand mental health conditions not only at the level of individual diagnosis and treatment, but also within broader social, environmental, and population-level contexts.
