Tasmanian LiFE Awards – 2025 Nominee
Priority Populations LiFE Award
The Priority Populations Life Award recognises the positive impact by individuals, organisations or community groups that are addressing, preventing or responding to suicidal behaviours in populations and groups disproportionately affected by suicide in Tasmania. They may also be highlighting the gaps and identifying strategies and embedding solutions specifically for people in need. This award highlights those who are culturally sensitive, overcome barriers, promote inclusion and delivers improved outcomes for priority populations.

Pinky Community Support

Pinky Community Support is a support service for vulnerable women, including members of the LGBTIQA+ community, migrants and refugees, and sex workers in Tasmania. It helps women access safe transport, in-home support, and connects them to crucial services like 1800 Respect, Working It Out and Victims of Crime.
Almost every woman has felt uncomfortable or unsafe in a taxi, an Uber, or on public transport at some point in their life. Pinky was created to meet the need for safe travel and support for vulnerable women. The service is the first of its kind in Tasmania.
Diane, the Manager of Pinky Community Support, works faithfully every day to make sure women and their families get the help they need. Her lived experiences have motivated her to support as many other women going through a tough time as she can.
Pinky was developed to support women from a wide range of at-risk populations. The service is a registered NDIS provider and referral point for other organisations to make sure the most vulnerable people in our community can access it. The service collaborates with Community Owned Response to Eliminating Suicide (CORES) and staff have completed CORES’ Suicide Prevention training.
Women in vulnerable situations shouldn’t have to worry about their safety in transport on top of everything else. Pinky Community Support makes sure women can access the help they need safely, whether in their homes or the community.
