Messages of Hope – A Year of Hope, Connection and Community
Over the past 12 months, the Messages of Hope book has travelled across Tasmania, gathering messages, words and drawings from people and communities across the state.
The initiative began on World Suicide Prevention Day on 10 September 2025, when the book was launched in Hobart’s Elizabeth Street Mall. Inspired by the theme “Changing the Narrative on Suicide”, the book was created to encourage open and compassionate conversations about suicide and to remind people that they are not alone.
Since its launch, the book has travelled to community events, organisations, meetings and gatherings, with Tasmanians of all ages adding their own messages of hope, kindness, encouragement and connection.
A new home for the Messages of Hope book
On World Suicide Prevention Day 2026, the Tasmanian Suicide Prevention Community Network (TSPCN) marked the completion of the initiative with a special gathering at Parliament House.
The Hon Bridget Archer MP presented the Messages of Hope book to staff from the Peacock Centre, where it will now have a permanent home and be available for community members to access, read and enjoy.
The book will continue to share the many messages of hope contributed by Tasmanians over the past year and provide a space for people to reflect, connect and be reminded of the hope that exists within our communities.
Thank you
A heartfelt thank you to all the community groups, organisations and community members who helped make the Messages of Hope initiative possible. Thank you to everyone who hosted the book, helped it travel around Tasmania, encouraged people to contribute, and took the time to write or draw a message.
Every message has helped create a powerful collection of hope, kindness, strength and connection.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has been part of this journey.
Together, we have helped change the narrative on suicide by creating space for hope, connection and compassionate conversations.
